I am looking at getting an Ampeg B-5R bass head but haven't found many reviews on it.
Can anyone give me their opinions on the amp or somw others in the same price range which is around $500.
I will be playing my Ric 4003 through it. I haven't got my cab yet but will be at least a 4-10 and a 1-15.
    Thanks

  2. See thread "I Oughta be Arrested" for details on how I got it, but I do like the simplicity of operation. Since I have switchable distortion at my feet and the B5R is solid state, I do not use the clean/dirty channel switching, but rather the channel combine feature to get a nice fat sound with a slight edge. I really like the octave divider; it is as good as or better than my MXR, which I still use in another application. Lead guitarrist comment:
Ampeg amp is warmer than my 12AX7-equipped GenzBenz GBE250C head. This was based on an A-B test thru the same 2x12TXB cabinet, so judge accordingly. You can download the complete owner's manual in pdf form from www.ampeg.com

At first when I tried it, I just thought it was ok. But after messing around for awhile I really liked it. If I had the dough I'd definitley buy one.
