Went looking for a practice combo yesterday, you know a small portable amp that could be used in the computer room, and recording.

Well local shop has a Ampeg BA-10 30 watter for $199.99.

It sounded nice and played good. Yet, for 150 bucks more I could get a Fender Bassman 100. You know the new tiltback design with the eminece 10.

Well I decided to compare them using a MIM 5 String Fender Jazz Bass. To be honest with you the Fender Bassman 100 didn't have the tone that little 30 watter Ampeg had. Volume wise it wasn't that much louder and didn't carry the lows has well.

Kinda surprised. You think a 100 watter would blow away a 30 watt amp. Until I cranked that Bassman up to 8 I didn't notice a huge difference.

I didn't find the Bassman's contour knob to be of much use and I had a hard time dialing in the EQ, were with the Ampeg it only took me a second to dial it in. Now I am really courious in maybe getting the Ampeg 50 or 100 watter combo's and seeing how they are.

To be honest with you I am more impressed with the Rumble 100 they have. Maybe I will go back and play with it some more but as it looks I am going to get a Ampeg Combo for know.
