Ampeg Billy Sheehan-preamp

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by andreas_bass, Nov 9, 2000.

  1. Hi everyone!
I'm looking for a great preamp for Hard rock/metal-style. Has anyone checked out the Ampeg Billy Sheehan-preamp? How does that sound? How does the distortion-channel sound via the XLR-output?
Or any other suggestion of a good distorted preamp?
    Thankful for any opinion.

The BSP preamp is ok, but to get the true effect of the unit, like Billy, you'll need to run the two channels into a good stereo amp and separate cabs for each channel. If you want a good preamp for the type of music you play, save yourself some money and get the Ampeg SVP-PRO preamp. It has four 12AX7 tubes and 1-12AU7 tube that can be driven harder with the overdrive pot on the front panel. I use this preamp to drive my SVT. You can usually find these used for $250-$350.
