Ok, I'm trying to decide on a 210 cab to use with my SVT15E cab. I can get either the Ampeg SVT210HE(used) or the Avatar 210(new) for about the same price. What do you guys think would be the better choice?
I would get the Ampeg 210 because I imagine that it has been voiced to go with the Ampeg 115 you already have.
How's the condition of the used Ampeg? Can you give it a work out before you buy it? If it sounds and looks good, I'd get it because like Gabu said, it might be a better match for your other cab.
Well, as the used cab is not a local to me item it will be hard to play before I purchase it. But it looks to be in great condition from the pictures. I have not been able to find a shop around me with one in stock that I could play either.
i would rather get the avatar.... but you already have the 15 so might as well match it. itll look cool and sound cool too.
I tried the Ampeg and did not like it at all: Weak lows, uneven mids, harsh highs. I have not heard the Avatar but the BP writeup was very positive.
in that situation I'd probably go with the ampeg just for the match. but I personally really want to order an Avatar 410 and compare it side by side to my Ampeg 410. I checked out your band too. we should set up some shows sometime.
Well, I made up my mind and went with the Avatar 210 cab, should be here tomorrow. I'll let you all know what I think of it. socalpyropunk, I would love to set up a show sometime. We are taking a break for a few weeks as our drummer quit and we are in the process of working in a new drummer and a replacement singer. Man I hate loosing band members, it blows your whole momentum. Where in OC do you play? I live in San Clemente, but we play all over San Diego and occasionally in OC. I also know lots of promoters who are always looking for good bands to book.
We just played Long Beach Warped Tour on the Ernie Ball stage and will be playing in Newport and somewhere else next week. check out my bands sites for the info at the bottom.I'll shoot you a PM and we can chat.
this might suddenly seem off topic, but surprisingly, it's very on topic for this thread title... Anyway, just wondering if anybody has ever A/B'd an Avatar and Ampeg 2x10. Any thoughts on either as a stand alone cab? Thanks.
Now I HAVE tried the Avatar and can say it is both better constructed than the Ampeg Classic series AND superior sounding. In fact, I bought TWO of the new CB112H cabs. I like them better than all the boutique gear at BASSNW EXCEPT the Bergantino HT112 EX112 cabs together which IMO can't be touched. Of course my PAIR of Avvies cost a little over $300 whereas ONE Bergie is over $500 (worth it if you have it). See http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85478 ...for my review. I was going through the same dilema, except I decided to go with the Ampeg. I found one used online, but the only bad thing is it's my Christmas present from my mom, and she won't let me play it, even though it's sitting in my bedroom back at home. I have an Avatar 410 and I really like it at medium volumes, but it doesn't sound quite as great when I'm pushing my amp into it, of course I'm assuming most cabs probably don't. I need at least two cabs or my behemoth Ampeg 810 to get the volume I need when I'm not running through the PA, of couse I'm probably busting everyone in the crowd's eardrums just to hear myself. I'm anxious for Christmas so I can compare my Ampeg 210 to the Avatar 410 and even see how they sound together. In the future I want to add an Avatar 212 to my 410 and an Ampeg 15 to the 210, but that will only happen when the financial situation improves. Dirk Only 2 1/2 months until Christmas!
Well, I have had the Avatar 210 for a few months now and I have to say that I am very very happy with it. It complements the Ampeg 15 very well. Being a 210 it doesn't handle the low notes all by itself very well...but I don't hear many 10's ever handle tons of bass very well. I get tons of complements on my tone with this rig and have no regrets buying it. Still think it would look kinda cool to have an all Ampeg stack...but thats the only reason I would ever get rid of the Avatar, and only if the Ampeg sounded as good. Scott
