I've narrowed down my choice to two amps: the Ampeg BA-115 and the Hartke B90. I played on the Ampeg a few weeks ago and i liked it a lot but i didn't see how loud it could get, then today i tried the Hartke and it was very loud and sounded very nice. Now, the Ampeg has sold and i can't compare the two, anyone have suggestions? Thanks
  2. hartkes rock....they are bright, punchy and sound sterile to me and not very warm. Ampegs are more warm sounding and have better bass response in my opinion. I'd go with the hartke....i have a 410TP that im borrowing and that thing rocks.

Never tried that particular Hartke.I did try the kickbacks though. They were pretty nice but side by side i prefered the Ampeg BA-115.Ive had it awhile now and love it.No problems at all and plenty loud for 100 watts. If it had an ext cab jack it would be perfect, but it does very well without.Good luck!

The Hartke that zero990 is refering to is not even close to the Hartke that you've been playing through. For one, it's a small combo & it has PAPER CONES as opposed to the "bright, sterile" aluminum cones. I'd personally go for the Ampeg. It sounds great & well, I've been playing Ampeg for years!!! :)

  5. sorry bout that, i don't memorize the model numbers....hehe. but yeah, if it doesnt have the aluminium go with the ampeg.

    Claremore OK.
Go with the ampeg, I just sold my hartke stuff cuz I was damn tired of that dry sterile sound but if thats what you like then get the hartke.
  7. I have played quite a bit through the BA115, but I am playing through a SWR Workingman's12 now and I am extremely happy with the change, and I can add an external to it as well. If you have a dealer close by give the swr a shot, it might be just what your lookin for.

Ampeg or Hartke? This is the easiest question I've heard in awhile. AMPEG!
  10. i have to agree too. I'm currebtly in the process of replacing my hartke stuff with probably SWR, but possibly Ampeg or Mesa instead.

Or you can do what I did and comprimise! Ampeg head + Hartke cabinets! The BA-115 is kickass, I'd rather have that because...I've played it and it's really loud and nice. Or, if you can, get the BA-210SP. It has 220 watts and 2 10's if 10's float your boat.

the choice is ultimatly yours, which of the 2 do your ears prefer more? I have both Hartke and Ampeg, They both have different sounds but both sound good, the choice is yours, play through both using your own bass and listen carefully to the both of them.

I'm not too familier with Hartke but if it has a "dry, sterile sound" let me tell you my experience. Recently, I was shopping for a new amp. I bought an SWR Bass 750 which was very loud and very, very clean (sterile). I ended up buying a Sansamp Bass Driver DI and THEN I was happy with the tone I was getting. When I ended up experimenting with the Sansamp I discovered the setting I liked the most was "SVT"! So, rather than setting up an external box that required a 9 volt I returned both items and bought an Ampeg SVT IV Pro. Tons of power and real tube warmth and grind! I love it!
