    Hi all...

I'm thinking about getting the Ampeg Portabass combo. Does anyone have it? What do you think?

  3. I'm no one, but I still have no experience w/this amp. I am curious about it, though.

Well, I rented a PB 400 head and a PB210 cab for a one-night gig. The sound was nice and clean, and everything worked well. But it wasn't very punchy and it didn't have any particular character. I would use it again for a wedding gig (for example) where clean sound and easy load-in and -out are more important than tone or punch.

I tried a PBC-228 combo recently. It sounded a bit 'boxy', even with eq flat.
It's certainly good, and very portable / lightweight. The sound just didn't do it for me.

I tried a Portabass combo with two 10's and the sound that come to my mind is - cardboard. It sounded thin and unbalanced.

I A/B tested with a Fender Bassman 250 combo with two 10's - it was a no-contest win for the Fender Combo.
