Ampeg PF50t vs Noble vs Arkham Zephyr

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by bassdrop, Apr 19, 2017.

  1. I'm considering moving to a preamp/power amp setup and the above is what I'm considering. I like a thick defined sound that can sit on the verge of overdrive, if necessary. I currently run an Orange AD200 with a Fulltone Bassdrive Mosfet with the gain super low, essentially as HPF. The Noble has caught my ear because of the pillowy lows, the Arkham for its Ampeg-ish versatility, and the PF50 since it can run as both a preamp or a standalone amp for practices and duo gigs. Anyone with experience on all three?

I have a Zephyr and love it. Very tubey and versatile. Tried a Noble for a couple days and did not dig the form or sound. Always sounded scooped to me. I can't imagine choosing the Noble over the Arkham unless you want the pedal pre.

    Have not tried the 'peg.

Arkham is a great pre and very flexible. I do use it with a Quilter BB800.
