Ampeg pn-115hlf vs pf-115lf

    If you owned a pf 800 head, and you were to pick a matching pair of the above, which would you choose?

    Portaflex is about half the price here but can handle less power (400 to 575), but both cabinets, unless i'm mistaken, use a 400w 15" driver? Don't understand how they handle different power levels. I'm sure I read the ampeg guru saying you have to be careful pushing the head with the 2 115lf, would that be the case with the neos?

    I need to be loud, and require much action low on the b string.

    The PN has a neo in it, and neos can generally take more wattage because they have more cone movement than ceramic magnet speakers. I think the PN could probably get a little louder than the PF, yes. But do not get too caught up in raw numbers. Too often people go by the numbers only and blow their cabs because the numbers are a lot more complex than you might think they are at first. Best thing to do is use your ears and common sense, and remember that if it sounds like it will blow up, it will.

    End thread. Massively popular! Thanks Jimmy. I've been trying to find a store to try them out but all the ones I ring either don't do ampeg or just ship orders directly from the ampeg warehouse.

    True. I have yet to see a PF115lf in a store, and I'm almost positive that the Pro Neo line is made to order.
