Ampeg Pro Neo PN-410HLF vs Ampeg SVT-410HLF

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by roqblok, Jan 1, 2015.

  1. I love my Ampeg SVT-410HLF, but the weight of moving it around is starting to get to me. The Pro Neo weighs about 20lbs less which seems like would help save my back some. Does anyone know how these stack up against each other? I have never seen one in a Guitar Center and afraid to plunk down the big bucks one with out testing it out.

Btw, if it matters any I play through a SVT3 Pro head.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

No direct experience with the Pro Neos, but the specs tell me that they won't go as low as your SVT 410hlf, so if that extreme low end appeals to you, you're best to stick with what you have. As for tonal quality, folks at Ampeg describe them as "Sounds like Ampeg, but a little tighter and cleaner."

If you want cabs with a big low end but lighter, you might find some of the Portaflex line of cabs to your liking as well. The PF115he is sealed but has a gigundus low end for a sealed cab. They also make a ported 115 that is even bigger in the lows.

I really like the PF line so I'd like to also throw the PF410HLF into the mix of possibilities.

  4. Thanks guys. Appreciate the insight

You could also lighten up a bit (to 76 lbs) with the Heritage 410 - and you'll get better sound to boot.

I've always wondered how the SVT410HLF (and Heritage 410HLF) can be lighter than the SVT 410HE. The HLF is a bigger cabinet, IIRC, right?

Apples and oranges, johnpbass. There are at least two generations of SVT Classic cabinets (from this POV); the US made ones and the Asian ones. The older, US made have thicker walls from OSB and are much heavier than the Asian ones, that have thinner walls from real multi layer plywood. An old SVT-410HE could definitely be heavier than a new SVT-410HLF. The Heritage ones seem even lighter and might have still better (Baltic?) plywood.

  8. Any views on the AMPEG PN410 cab? Tight, deep, modern, vintage? ???:cigar:

the Heritage SVT HLF is a better version of the cab you already own and is only 70lbs. I love HLF's myself, so i recommend looking there as well. The PF410HLF is a great cab, but they are tonally different.

I MIX TOGETHER: Lakland Deluxe 55-94 5-String Bass GUITAR + GENZ BENZ GBE 1200 AMP HEAD + Genz Benz GB115T-UB 1x15" Neo Bass Cabinet + Ampeg Pro Neo Series PN-210HLF 550W 2x10 Bass Speaker Cabinet. I AM PRACTICING TO BECOME A GOOD BASS PLAYER. I LOVE THE SOUND, IT'S WOW..... I AM PRACTICING HARDER AND HARDER.... WORKING HARD TO SPEND THAT MUCH. I CAN'T BELIEVE I DO THAT.
