As I understand, speaker box especially sealed box needs to be well sealed to work well. How does Ampeg flip top cabs achieve a good seal? Wouldn't the flip top be prone to air leak?

If I don't need the flip top feature, is it safer to go with normal cabs in terms of robustness and reliability?

Mine did leak and rattle a bit until i replaced the weather stripping with a little thicker and wider stripping. Works great now.
  3. The modern fliptops have fairly decent rubber stripping around the join. I have two of them, I dont hear any leakage.
  4. I use a fliptop cabinet that I put weather stripping around the opening. Once the amp is sitting on top, I have experienced no problems.

Ya, weather stripping around the rim. Seals it tight. I have no leakage problems in any of my fliptop cabs, and I have 5 of them.
