I found one of these locally in mint condition and thinking about getting it. Anybody have experence with these? Just thought it would be neat to have an Ampeg in the collection.

I think you would be better off with a pro series head with the tube preamp...they sound alot better.

I have played through one of those it was driving a 410HLF cabinet (it was a supplied backline). They are not bad. It's a Solid State head and sounds just like a B2RE with more head room.

I like the Ampeg SS tone. It's no SVT in the tone department but I think they sound decent. I have not heard or read much negative press on them regarding reliability (if it's an older USA built one. I have no idea about the newer off shore units.). If you can get a good deal (cheap)on it, why not?

I would caution you to stay away from the solid-state or hybrid Ampeg heads. Their tone always leave a lot to be desired. The companies reputation was built on tube heads; don't expect "Ampeg" tone from something with a solid-state power amp.
