It is stated that the amp will run at 2 ohms but is it really safe?? Has anybody here ever done it?

    YES!

If an amp is rated at 2 ohms, it is plenty safe to run it at 2 ohms. I have been running my old Randall head at 2 ohms for years (well, not continuously) and have never had a problem. However...

If the SVT-2 has a cooling fan (I'm not up-to-speed on my Ampeg amps anymore), you will want to make sure that the intakes are not being blocked. If it doesn't have a fan, you'll still want to make sure it has enough space around it to dissipate the heat that it will generate.
