anyone out there own one? im looking to buy the head with the matching 4x10, but i can not stress how much i hate the sound of solid state. ive read that these heads have a very tube like feel to them, i was hoping someone could follow up on that for me. thanks.
This is a very warm (non-sterile) sounding head. Before I bought my SVT-350H (which I no longer have)I exchanged info with a guy selling his no eBay. He owned an SVT-CL and bought the SVT-350H as a backup. He said that he never used the backup so he sold it. When I asked him to compare the tone of the two heads, he said that he really liked the tone of the solid state head but was devoted to tubes. He also said that if price and weight were a consideration, he'd be very happy with the SVT-350H. I sold mine because I went the rack route and found that with the cabinets that I had, the Ampeg head's power didn't go very far. You'll need an efficient cabinet (or two) as it seems to be common opinion that the SVT-350H/AV and B2R (all the same amps electronically) are under powered. I wish Ampeg made 1U version of the SVT-350H's preamp, I seriously consider it. Have fun!!!!
