I recently bought an Ampeg SVT 4 Pro. It's a great amp, but it's like something is missing -I think it might be the tube-growl.

I don't have much experience with tube amps, so if everyone here can tell me what I get and what I loose by changing, I appreciate that.

I'm looking into other cabinets too. Has anyone tried a SVT 4 Pro or a SVT Classic with a Ampeg BSE 410H cabinet?

The sound i'm looking for is slightly distorted, defined, motownish, with NO "clicking"!

Every comment/suggestion I can get on this is highly appreciated.

One point of course is just tube vs SS, as you have identified, along with some preamp changes in the 4PRO vs the SVT.

Another thing related to classic SVTs and tube growl is that they didn't have master volume.
That means that the preamp would not have been clipped when the power amp started to clip.....the growl is tube power amp, but the 4PRO power amp is SS.

It's a question of what you like. I think you are gonna have to find an SVT and play it to see. Sounds like you might like it though.
