    Hi,

currently I am using a PF-500 with one PF-115HE and one PF-210HE. I am quite happy with the cabs, also because of their portability and their weight. But I would like to replace the PF-500 with a tube Ampeg.

If I were to replace the PF-500 with a SVT CL (or VR), but keep the cabs, would that get me closer to the real "Ampeg Sound" or do I really need SVT cabs to get there? An 810 is out of the question, so the alternative would probably be a SVT410HE.

    Thanks for your opinions!

    W

No experience with the PF cabs, but I would suspect the PF115HE and PF210HE would be fine with an SVT. Use both for 4 ohms.

The 410HE is pretty much half an 810E. The acoustic chambers of the 410HE are slightly smaller and it has a tweeter that you can adjust to taste or turn off. The SVT is rated for 2 or 4 ohms and the 410HE is 8 ohms. The SVT will run on 8 ohms, but it will cause increased tube wear and the max power will be reduced.

Many have said the SVT 212AV is voiced very similar to the 810E, and it is 4 ohms.

  3. The SVT212AV is 4 ohm and supposed to go well for the SVT
That's what I'd go with if possible, tho the pf cabs will work

Besides the important question of impedance there is also the practical question of actual size. The SVT is a bit larger than the PF-115/PF-210. But I guess it stand on its feet which are closer together. Would a SVT stay stable of a stack of PF-115 and PF-210 (which I really would like to keep)

Honestly, unless you need to sell the PF500 to pay for the SVT I’d hold onto the PF500.

The SVT is sweet, but sometimes it’s nice to have a smaller/lighter option.

The remainder I can’t answer. I use an SVT/810 for bigger stages and a Mesa/115 for small venues, jamming/auditions/rehearsals and places with a lot of stairs.

If I were in your situation I’d keep the PF rig and add an SVT and 212.

The 210he kinda sorta sounds like an 810e cab if you turn off the tweeter. The 115he goes a lot deeper but does have certain characteristics you think of when you think of Ampeg. SO my answer is yes in some ways, no in others.

Thanks, but what about the size?

No replacement for displacement. No free lunches with that.

I agree with your statement, but my actual question was more about the width of the amp being bigger than the width of the cabs. My guess is that the SVT rubber feet should be sitting well on the PF cabs, but I was wondering if anyone could confirm.

Oh, well I no longer have those cabs so I couldn't tell you.

But if you have an SVT, could you measure how far the feet are from each other?

Tomorrow. My brother in law is staying here tonight and he's in the room with the SVT's. Send me a PM if I forget.
