    Hi,
For months now I have been absolutely loving the tone from my Ampeg SVT CL & Ampeg 810. I've been using it in large, medium and small rooms. It is a killer rig as everyone knows... However, as most people have experienced, it becomes difficult to "drag" around... Do you folks have any suggestions for a "scaled back rig"?... the SVTCL head and a smaller cab?... a smaller head and the 810 cab?... Any and all sugestion are welcome. Thanks in advance.

  3. I've been running a PF 500 head with my 8 10 for the last three gigs I've played. Pretty happy with that combination. 11 lbs. vs. 85 lbs. The sound is real close to the SVT too.

Pick up a 212AV. Small and 4 ohms, porter but tubes similar to the LF roll off on the 8x10. Ive not moved my 8x10 in years, use either a pair of the 112AV cabs or another 2x12. Don’t have those speakers up near your ear but the cabs sound great.

    Which head are you using?

  6. One of my favorite rigs for a deep full sound. My five string basses sound great through this combination. Ampeg svt heritage hlf cab. Great sound

212av should be on the short list for sure.

    What day is it?

But seriously, either an SVT, V4, B25, or Science Mother.

NOTHING sounds like a full SVT. There are no "scaled back" rigs. If there were, we would all be using it. The question is, where are we willing to compromise?

    Sure there are.

    V4B through a 212AV, Greenboy Dually, or Berg NV610.

Those are all great suggestions. Still a compromise. None of them sound like a SVT driving a fridge.

IMO the cab is what you don't compromise.

Besides, to my ears, the V4 sounds as good or better than the SVT.

This was my compromise for a similar situation. I use an SVT 2 pro and love my 810. My problem wasn't the schlep but playing some small rooms it was too much. So a sealed 212 with eminence beta 12a2s was the answer. It doesn't bring the thunder of the 810 but it's portable and gives me a sound I'm still happy with.

I use a SVT-CL & a NV610, it cops the 810 vibe , and the cabinet fits in the trunk of a Lexus

Well of course they are. That's the whole point of the thread...finding a smaller compromise that isn't too different.

  19. SVT + Berg NV212 (or NV115 or HG310). Scaling down to a smaller sealed cab helps preserve that Ampeg SVT tone.
