I have an Ampeg SVT Classic head that should arrive on Tuesday. It doe not have an effects loop but I was wondering if anyone has ever used the preamp out/power amp in jacks in an effects loop fashion.

I have a rackmount compressor (DBX 160a) that I may or may not want to insert into the signal chain, and it does not work well with straight up instrument level signals.

You could certainly use the preamp out/power amp in jacks as a loop providing that the gear that you insert there can deal with a (stronger) line level signal. Sounds like the DBX can.

Remember that compressors can enhance any noise that comes before them...

I have the same situation. Is there anyone out there that has a SVT-CL head and using a DBX 160a in the preamp out/power amp in jacks? Did you do this Big D? How's it working for you?
