Just picked up a used Ampeg SVT ProIII. I am playing my trusty Stingray 5 through it.

Question: No matter how I play with the input gain, master and tube gain my guitar seems to clip the input. I do play an aggressive finger style but I've never had this problem with other amplifiers.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

    Thanks!

Turn the lows down. Also, turn the volume down on the guitar if you're clipping the pre, that way it doesn't get as hot of a signal.

Seems that a lot of folks comment that the red light comes on quite a bit, but there isn't distortion.

I think the ampeg guy mentioned that the light should light, just not light all the time.

  4. There's a -15dB button on your amp. Use it.

  5. Yep, use the pad on the input if you're not already.

If that doesn't do it, turn down any bass boost on your onboard pre on the bass. After that, I suppose the volume knob on the bass is the next option.
