hey all, Last summer I was able to pick up a 70s v4b locally, I looked around for the matching cab for a bit but couldn't find one. Since then I have been using 2 15" svt cl cabs. I saw they just got in today a 70s 2x15 v4b cab and was thinking of picking it up. What were the original speakers in these things? I don't really know if it will be an advantage over my sound now but it was made for this head, it would be nice asthetically to have it not over hang over the cab side but wondering if there are any other benefits other than that and possible resale being better someday?
Altec 421a's or EV EVM-15L's. Been a real long time since I heard one so I can't comment on the different tones. Resale value on old cabs isn't great, even when paired with their matching classic tube amps, but if it has either Altecs or EV's in it, it's definitely worth considering.
Is this cab At Manchester GC? Just be aware that the speakers in this cab are rated at 75 watts RMS so if the theory of the rating being thermal max then it is rated for less than a hundred watts. And it is Huge and heavy.
Yea it's at the Manchester location, I havent seen it yet, just saw online that it was there and gonna go check it out. I figured it was gonna be really heavy. Maybe if I could get a good deal, GC isn't the best place to try to haggle but I don't know how easy it would be for them to sell this thing. I remember a little while ago the manager was trying to sell me a new svt cl head for 1000 because it was taking up space and was sitting there for over a year
I just traded that cab in Monday. The cab is very solid and both speakers are working like they should. One of them was reconed when I got it because it was toast. Just have to be careful how much you feed it. If you have any questions feel free to ask here or PM.
Altec 421S. Supposedly rated at 75 watts RMS but who really knows what they can handle. I used it with my V4B for a practice amp at rehearsal space mostly. But it was a semi soft hitting drummer and a guitarist that did not play very loud so it never got pushed.
I had been trying to sell it for 2 years off and on lots of tire kickers but finally had to move it and they offered me 200 so now it is theirs. It is a solid cab all the seams were cleaned and re-glued it was missing its load plates so those were replaced along with seals. Even tried selling the altecs no bites. No tolex just flat black paint but all voids were filled and sanded ready to be re-sanded and tolexed
I just scored a V4B cabinet ... it is somewhat bastardized, but what the heck for $250.00 ... what the hell .... it has some newer stamped frame delta's in it and the person threw in a old Acoustic 150 amp .. so I have a little project for the winter .. gonna load a pair of 3015's in it , as I already have them, just sitting around Untitled by jastacey128, on Flickr
I picked up one for $150 bucks with Altecs. I bought it because someone had given me a 197x V4B head and I wanted the original cab. It sounds great, but it is a beast to move. The V4B cab is way bigger and heavier than an Ampeg 8x10 cab. One of these days I'll find a reason to break both my SVT VR with 810 and the V4B head and cab. The 2x15 folded horn sounds glorious.
man i wish i knew you had it on here for 150. oh well, I didnt get a chance to make it out there today maybe tomorrow. It is not something I need, I am already playing through 2 15s but it would just be cool to have with a 70s v4b.
