    Hi,

I'm wondering if it's worse a penny to grab an ampeg v4b 90 slm reussie or should i wait a 70"s magnavox up for sale ?

Is there any difference in the schemactics ? I could find the 70's one but impossible to find the 90's one.

I'm currently playing on US ampeg-svt pro 3 with US ampeg 4*10HLF (which i use with analog synth that goes really in low freq in the cab got it quite well), i'm wondering if adding a second 410HFL with an ampeg-v4b would be the good compagnion for that rig ? Or should i go for cabs like accugroove or barefaced (which seems promising) and a 100 watt head of another brand ?

I play loud rock with DIY fuzz pedals, that goes from doom/drone to black rock (think about shellac to give you an idea).

    Regards.

I play stoner rock, similar to your taste. I got a 70s v4b about a month ago and it is killer. I had a ampeg 410hlf but it didn't do it for me at the v4b's 100 watts, so I picked up an ampeg 8x10 anniversary cab for stupid cheap off the cl, and holy crap i've never sounded so good. The 90s reissue v4bs are not the most popular ones here, so I would definitely stick with the vintage ones.

I've not played the V4BH, but the V4BH doesn't seem to go over quite as well with those who have played both. Having said that, it could be just that they didn't get the EQ they like in their SVT nailed or that they prefer single volume to separate gain and master. I look at any Ampeg tube amp with respect no matter when it was made...OK, maybe not the 50's Ampeg bass combo cabs so much...but I've never heard one that sounded anything less than awesome unless it was broken.

He means the 410HLF has a butt-ton of lows and it takes more wattage to amplify at the level of a more typical 410 bass cab like the 410he.

The 90's SLM amp IS the V4BH.

Well assuming you're only going to go 70's, the difference between the two V4B's is single volume and separate gain and master, earlier blackface ones have single volume. I had an earlier one from 73 and it was amazing. Want to get another one one day. But they're both excellent.

I have the Ampeg book and just looked it up to make sure they didn't stick a wildcat in there. There is only the V4BH from SLM, no V4B Classic. Might have said "Classic" on a panel or something, but they are all the V4BH. Started in 1994, not sure when it stopped because the book stops at 98.

They're basically two completely different amps - different preamp, different power tubes, even the box is different. The "newer" SLM V-4BH is in the same sized box as the current SVT (which is not as deep as a vintage SVT). I have never played a V-4BH, but I owned a '74 for many years and loved it. I sold it a few months ago just because it wasn't getting used for anything. I still have, and sometimes use my '74 SVT.

This place has lots of good info - Ampeg V4.com | All Ampeg All The Time

Yup i saw V4b classic series on the front panel so i was confused and seems even the seller was as the ads stats ampeg v4b. So everthing with a black font panel are v4b and i've to find a silver one. Ok thanks for clarifying that, i was only interested in the v4b as i've saw the schematics of that one

I have an early 70's v4b that I've played through for many years and I have a v4b(classic) that I've recently acquired. The old v4b has always sounded wonderfull through an 810 cab. If we're playing outdoors with a soundman and he wants to d.i. it or mike it or something I usually tell him ok but you won't need to because it's plenty loud and sounds better when cranked. The tubes were getting a little hard to find and the reissue takes 6l6s which are common. I have'nt had a chance to compare the two but so far the reissue sounds fine. I've noticed that the newer model v4bh looks the same but it has the big white graphics(as opposed to the blue classic)and more importently a neutric speaker output. I'm just sayin'...
