OK, so, Im new here. My main reason for joining was I had a question. I am in a position where I am torn between two rigs, what a beautiful place to be eh? Anyways, here's the deal. I'm not concerned w/ price issues between the two, just pros and cons. Ampeg SVT-350H and the 6x10 cabinet....or an SWR bass350 matched up w/ the Henry the 8x8. In dire need of suggestions, thanks

It's purely a preference thing, like Ford vs. Chevy. They each have their own merits; one is not clearly better than the other because they are different. Just get the one that best fits your tastes.

the bass350 into the 8x8 is going to be pretty quiet, but i dont like the ampeg sound, so my vote is neither.

Henry's are very loud, so i am not sure what you are comparing to when you say that setup will be "quiet"?

Im not complaining. I think they sound great, but theyre certainly not loud: 96 db 1w @ 1m compared to what...110 db 1w @ 1m for a goliath sr...thats a DAMN big difference. Also, bass 350 isnt that powerful of a head, so if he needs to really shake the house down its just not the right rig (imho).

I didn't say complaining, i said comparing...I think that the Henry is louder than the Senior, I have played both in a similiar circumstance...

haha...sorry about the complaining thing...ive read about a thousand pages of bruce eckels book on java as well as a ton of the sun documentation today for a test on wednesday, so im a bit bleary eyed.

odd that you found it louder...i mean from my experience in a technical metal setting (coalesce, dillinger escape plan, etc) and specs the sr is alot louder....but maybe the henry has a better sound for the more straight up new metal type style

...i dunno...it certainly didnt cut it for me, but the sr pretty much does.

oh, and im comparing to sm400s bridged into a goliath sr.

and before i get my foot inserted in my mouth...

now that i listen to a few more of your mp3s youre not just nu metal...more of a good time rock and roll type thing...makes me wanna get up and shake my rump :)

Although the mp3's you heard are somewhat representative of our style, our CD is, IMO, much heavier(plug:pLEASE BUY IT IN FEBRUARY!!! WE NEED THE MONEY, WE OWE TOO MUCH). We definitely are about having a good time and partying, I assume that is the bands' appeal. We definitely aren't about anger and that is refreshing to me, I am joker at heart, so it fits. I don't know why the Henry was louder to me, but maybe it was the sound was "punchier", maybe not louder per se.

    Ampeg.

Swr sounds a bit sterile for my liking.

But it all boils down to what Estring said. Try em out, and see which one you like the best. People here can tell you one is better or the other is better, but that doesn't matter. It is you that has to play through it, not us. Depends on what kind sound you like.

They are both great amps, though.

ampeg and swr sound quite a bit different.
ive been a satisfied SWR user for a while now, but i do like ampegs. i would get the swr just because i like their sound. i wasnt very impressed with the svt350 ..... and the svt3pro kinda dissapointed me.

Out of the general options given (ampeg or swr) I'd take an Ampeg b5r, and the SWR big bertha cab.

The Ampeg b5r is the only head I'd consider owning, out of the entire Ampeg line.

(Not to crap on Ampeg, or SWR, they're just not my bag.)

SWR of course but the set up u are suggesting doesn't sound practical. The 350 won't do much with the 8x10 (i think or is there an 8" speaker?). I have an SM-900 matched with the goliath iii in mono. I have been considering getting one of those 1x15's to help punch the bass another notch.

Maybe look into getting the Bass 750 instead. Pay the extra, u won't regret it. I honestly do not like the 350. But just check some things out.

Pssst... He said 8x8, not 8x10.

Generally it's the other way around, if you want punch, you get 10"'s not 15"'s.

I think the SM 500 would certainly be sufficient for nearly anything with an 8x8. Those 8"'s I'm sure are quite punchy, and get incredible mids, it should be able to cut very well, and 500 watts should certainly be enough for nearly any (reasonable) situation.

My opinion would be the Ampeg, just because that is what I use now, and that 6x10 would be pretty loud. The SWR would sound pretty good too. Try them and then decide. You could go either way and probably be completely satisfied.

i just bought an amp yesterday so i m pretty up to date whats on the market at the moment.

i ve tried both the ampeg and the swr and to me, the swr sounds way nicer than the ampeg.

i dont really understand why you want to buy a 8x8. i d rather go for a 4x10 in stead. i tried the swr 350 amp in combination with the swr goliath III (4x10) and it was some of the very best i ve ever heared. i think if you only want a single speaker cabinet the swr 350 with the swr goliath III is the way to go.

personally, i prefere a combination of 10 and 15 or 18 inch speakers. so what i bought was the swr 350 and a swr goliath junior III (2x10) and plan to buy an swr big ben (1x18) when i get some money.

i hope this is of some help to someone.

    cheers
    luke
