i have an old DB that im playing with in a jazz band. acoustically, it sounds great, but when amplified it sounds incredably crappy. the pickups arent that nice, but im just lookin for nice ways to make my sound better. any suggestions welcome

If your bass sounds good unamplified, then the most likely problem is that you have an impendence matching problem between your pickup and your amp The usual solution for this is to get a preamp.

The next most likely problem is that you have a nasty pickup eg a Fishman. The solution is to get a better pickup!

Both of these issues have been well explained on many threads - check out the Newbie Links thread at the start of this forum.... and good luck - you are starting out on the never ending quest for a good amplified double bass sound!
