    is there a difference between an amp and a preamp
    is a preamp just a longer name to make you sound more intelligent?

    amp is the device that let your electric instrument be heard. an amp is made by a preamp, a power amp and a speaker. there are different kind of amps:
    combo everything together in a portable box

    the amp (preamp+poweramp) only, called head

    speaker cabinets only

    [​IMG]

    you can have even the preamp only

    [​IMG]

    and the poweramp only

    [​IMG]
