Today I was in a local pawn shop that is also a fully stocked new and used music store. As I was purveying the handguns I overheard the conversation between a guy that was buying an Applause guitar and one of the guys that worked there. The guy buying the guitar said:

"I walked into this other music store and asked if they sold Washburn and he said 'no but we sell Ibanez.' I was like 'so' and he said 'Washburn sucks.' Man! That's like saying that Gibson sucks!!"

The guitar shop employee heartily agreed and went on to say "That's like saying Les Paul sucks."

Apparently the status of Washburn has been highly elevated without my knowledge.

The guy who made the original comment is the same guy who, when I picked up a fretless bass earlier, said "Oh, fretless, there's a brave man! You go, Les Claypool."

The conversation's funny, though the last Washburn I played was pretty solid.

This exchange has new relevance now, considering the horrifying trainwreck that is now Gibson's QC.

I'm not dawging Washburn's and I haven't played a Gibson OR a Washburn lately. All I can say is it was pretty funny in March of 2003.

My brother has a US Chicago made Washburn guitar. It's great, but the neck is broken. Needs a new neck.

Actually I'm trying real hard to remember where the heck that was! I can't even remember a pawn shop in Temple, where I used to live, that's also a full music store. I'm getting old.

The one I used to have was crap but that was long ago.

Oh wait, I just got it. I DID actually use to have a Washburn branded amp though.
