in my recent quest for a Jazz style fiver in my favorite combination of Ash and Maple, i had a chance to reacquire and this bass and after spending some time with the J retro and adjusting the pickup gain settings in the preamp, I am very happy to have her back. Something about a good Jazz style bass. The neck and body are USACG ( thanks , Tommy!!) the pickups are DiMarzio Ultra Jazz , Hipshot Hardware and Carey Nordstrand assembled it. Now I'm getting a bug to do another with a different setup.

  3. Very cool looking. It's nice to be able to get a bass made to your specs like that.

Very nice bass. There is one former bass of mine that I would like back, but alas, I don't even know where it is right now.

Jared, the search is over, and at the right price!
Bob, thanks. I was looking at a used bass three times the price and could not bring myself to do it. I even considered a Sadowsky Metro and Roger was very cool to correspond with, but this bass, with the birdseye and blocks, white guard and natural ash was my fevorite combination, that is why i speced it out that way in the first place.
I am again very happy to have it back, so far did a gig and a rehearsal with it and the funky 70s vibe is so alluring to me, fat and funky. Gotta bunch of gigs this weekend, I plan to put some miles on it ! :bassist:

  7. I love natural ash! That gold hardware looks really nice with it, and while I'm not crazy about block inlays, those are the most tasteful I've seen on any bass. Absolutely beautiful. :D :hyper:

Nino, its a full size USACG Jazz body, REALLY nice Ash, on the
medium/heavy side. The neck and the fingerboard are birdseye Maple. The inlays are pearloid. Hipshot style A bridge and UltraLight tuners, DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickups ( USA ), J Retro Deluxe preamp ( U.K ) . Bassist made in Havana , Cuba :smug:
Seriously, I have not been able to put the bass down since I got it. The whole 70's Jazz bass thing is a blast ! I did three gigs on it already. Wed night I subbed on a top 40 hi energy gig, 9 piece, loud, all kinds of dance tunes.
Tonight at 8-10, a Latin Jazz gig, and from 11-2 a Latin dance band, salsa, merengues, cumbias ... the bass killed in all styles. I am really digging the J retro this time around, I must have missed something before, because though i liked it, this time i love it! I lowered the gain in the pickup trim pots ( internal ), I know it's a different mind set form the Sad 2 band, but this thing has an ultra bright pull switch that really sizzles, almost like an onboard tweeter vol control, and sweepable mids which help me dial all kinds of cool cuts and bumps. Its just a really cool back to roots thing with a state of the art eq- I think of it like a channel strip on a mixing board. Still getting used to it. Tomorrow and Sunday i have some smooth Jazz gigs where I will have fun pretending I am Marcus Miller ( yeah, right! )
ok, it's 3:30 am, go to sleep, Adrian
