Thanks for doing this forum, Watt, and thanks for doing what you do. Mch respect to you - you've influenced the way I think about music. I caught your show in Chicago in October and I've been reading your tour diaries. I noticed that you mention you ran into former Gone/Rollins Band bassist Andrew Weiss. What's he up to these days? Last I heard he was working with Ween, but that was way back in the Chocolate and Cheese days. His playing on those old Rolllins Band albums blew my mind, especially his work w/distortion. I was sad to see him leave the band.
hi jari, don't know what he's doing, we mainly talked about the little bass (my eb-3) - he dug the sound. it was so great to see again him though, he's a fantastic bassist and I dig him much. dig the way he plays barefoot too. I did that for the porno for pyros australia/new zeland tour in 1996. on bass, watt
i work at music store here in trenton, nj and i see andrew all the time as he is a close friend of my manager. he just recently played a gig w/ ween for the re-release party of their god ween satan record in new hope, pa. he also did a gig at the same place that was all bassists! it was andrew on electric, my friend wilbo wright from the band ui on upright, dave the current ween bassist on 8-string bass and andrew's wife dierdre on keyboard bass! i unfortunately missed this gig but wilbo told me the low end was unbelieveable! aside from that i know he's been doing a lot of production work. ever hear his pre-gone band regressive aid? it's andrew, sim cain and the late guitarist from ministry, bill tucker. amazing stuff. aside from watt andrew is one of my big influences as a bass player it's cool that i've gotten to know him a bit. when i see him i still resist the temptation to get all fan-boy and ask him questions about the old days though! hope this was informative to you! peace, chris
Andrew Weiss +Watt were my two biggest influences as well...Try to find "Wartime" w/ Hank Rollins and Andrew. If you liked Gone then check that out FS. "Franklins tower" with a hiphop beat and Mr.R whispering menacingly...yikes!
Thanks for the replies. I figured he would have gone into doing more production since he did so much of that with Ween. I had the Wartime album, but I haven't heard any of his playing with Regressive Aid. His work with Rollins is still my favorite, esp. on the _Life Time_ album and the live cut of "Out There" (from _Hard Volume_?). If anyone's interested, I have an old issue of BP where he's interviewed, and an old issue of Musician with another interview. Maybe I can scan them and mail them off or something.
you should that would be cool to read...what about Melvin Gibb though he is a damn good bassist too and he played with Rollins.. peace j
hi, I think both andrew and melvin are tremendous thud wrestlers. much respect to them both. on bass, watt
