Anyone else have a rattle coming from the sockets of their removable casters while they are playing? My 1212/6/1 has one or more sockets that just absolutely rattle to no end when the wheels are removed. I tried plugging it with neoprene but that is even more of a PITA than just leaving the casters in. It's not the housing attached to the cab, those are rock solid, but the inserts that the casters slip into inside the housing itself. They move around with the vibrations of the notes. Obviously, the louder I play the worse it gets. Anyone have a quick fix for this?
This is an unfortunate drawback to using that type of caster. The spring loaded insert retainer often rattles and I haven't seen any successful ways of eliminating it either. Sometimes it's made worse when the caster takes an impact too.
Changing the inserts might help but it would be a gamble to find out. Inserts/Sockets (66) - Accessories (83) Some removable caster sets do not have the inserts.
Well shucks. These weren't the answers I was hoping for, lol... I thought about using a rubber/foam rubber plug of some sort. Something to absorb the vibration but still expand enough to hold the retainer in place. Same concept as a foam earplug.
Why is it necessary or desirable to remove the casters during use? I don’t know how much your caster sets cost, but maybe you could buy some additional for modding. You could cut the wheels off the second set and mount rubber feet on them. The shafts should engage and prevent the rattle
I always leave the casters on. Keeps the cab from picking up stage boom. Much better now with my adjustable HPF to cut poor venue acoustics.
I have always just left the casters on myself. The few times I've used the cab without the casters I could only last about three minutes due to that incessant rattle. Never on a gig, just at home or rehearsal. I've just wondered on occasion if I'm missing anything without that floor coupling thing going on. I take off the casters and it's rattle city so they go back on, lol.
It'd take a bit of carpentry but maybe deep six em - fill the holes and use these instead? I've had good luck with design... mount the wheels as wide as you can, add a rear handle and a bit of aluminium angle to the back bottom corner for curb hopping and you get a very handy box. 3" Heavy Duty Flush Caster | Speaker Hardware here are some other choices...
