Hi, Like a lot of Rush fans out there, I’ve been searching for the Geddy Lee tone. I was BU2B that you can get the sound with eq, so last month I decided to work on the youtube limelight bass track, I had to configure my pedalboard twice (I didn’t had a lot to do while wife and children are sleeping and obsession has to have action) anyway.... I really enjoyed this ear training exercise of tones and sub-tones levels and the learning curve of pedal order and their capabilities.

Once I was happy with the sound, I mixed my sound with the original and this is how it turned out.......

    Geddy-Eddy

Time to share how I did it with TBers friends....

For this one, I used 6 pedals from my board:

    71CD853B-F99A-489A-BFF0-B58C6988E5FE.
    • Boss TU2 tuner used as a splitter
    • Tech 21 Sansamp (clean but not so clean channel A)
    • Source Audio Afltershock (dirty but not so dirty channel B), I didn’t try it with the parallel mode.
    • Boss LS2 Mixer
    • FEA Dual Band Compressor
    • DHA DI eq

And as for the settings / eqs:

    Sansamp:
    90711BA7-1CC3-4B44-9169-3F5E4E20685B.

    Aftershock: (mids, mids and mids!!)
    977337C7-90B0-4D0A-A47E-0B8AB87DFE47.
    5D98C1AF-7D36-4133-B849-6BC988808B4C.

    Compressor:
    79AAABEC-5BD2-4654-9F19-6475CF3CCCC3.

Overall eq: (very important to have mid control on this guy)
    C26B8188-53FF-4096-B9A2-22C1DB41C02C.

As you can see..... a lot of mids!! And IMO recordings from the 80’s are very thin and considering that I used a youtube source, I had to remove a lot of bass (I didn’t like to do that but It was necessary in order to avoid to get a tone jump when comparing tracks)

I know that there are a lot of ways to get it, but this is what it worked for me and I hope that this can help anyone who’s looking for this sound.

    Cheers!!!

Excellent pedal, very transparent!! At the beginning it was difficult, I recommend the use of headphones in order to feel how’s affecting your sound!!

Great advice, thanks. Don't think I would have tried that.

  9. Bravo!

I'd be really interested to hear your Eddy-tone in a band mix.

Me too!! I’ll play with my prog band on January, I’ll send you samples, I would probably add up more bass from the sansamp.
