Thanks Francois! Is it typical that the D is copper wound while the G is not? The owner is a fiddle player who happens to own a bass fwiw, he knows nothing of the origins of the strings.

Yeah, nice Kay needed a neck reset so I didn't even attempt to tune it up to pitch when I brought it to my house. I've got a small mess of extra strings that I'm happy to supply, definitely going to ditch the existing E and A once the bass is back together but I might just try the D and G out, they look interesting anyway. Again, he's not a dedicated bass player, just wants the instrument to be ready for a jam every now and then.
My only worry about the current D/G is that they have a history of breaking, and they went out of business this past year.
