    Hello all,

As I want to overdrive my tube preamp I came to think about this:

Is it possible to have a loop with a gain booster (i.e. MXR 133) to make the preamp sweat and then have a volume pedal (eventually an EQ pedal of some sort with master volume) to match the clean volume so it dosn't go loud as hell when hitting the gain-boost?

In other words: will I still get the gain boost that makes my preamp overdrive if I have a volume (not gain) pedal after it to control the overall volume?

    Hope you understand.

    Thanks in advance :)

  2. Sounds like it would work assuming you'd be attenuating the signal after the preamp stage, like in an FX loop that's after the preamp.

Although if you're going to need to use a pedal to control the OD volume I'd think it would make just as much sense (if not more) to just get a distortion pedal you like and use that instead.
