Had a student of mine ask me a question that I have really never thought about before. He asked me if I could jam with any drummer that ever existed who would it be? The drummer that I play with now is the same drummer that I have played with for 13 years. We have done the studio thing and whole crazy tour days and the whole crazy mess. Then we both got straight and got families. But we for that long have gotten together and jammed 2-3 times a week. And most of the time just together. We can jam all night long, so I would have to say him. But he did not like the answer so I told him I had to think about it. So I guess the guys I would like to jam with for the hell of it would be

    Stuart Copeland

    Carter Beau ford

    The dude from phish

Ginger Baker always been a fav.

    Bonham

    Wow, there are so many...
I think I'll have to go with Ginger Baker though, because I think that stylistically we would be a decent fit.

Chad Smith or Steven Perkins. not the most highly recognized drummers, but I always thought the guys who could do polyrhythms gave you a better... err, sheet of paper to draw on? board to paint on? I don't know. lol

Carter Beauford is definitely a piece of work.

On the other hand, I could send him and Lenny for a quick loop around the solar system. :D

By the way, Lenny was one of the first to make use of a new technology called "Roto-Toms".

Vic Wooten's brother has an interesing style too... :D

Someday I'd like to jam with Peter Erskine. He's pretty out there too, although from a slightly different vantage point.

Another guy, is Gerry Carter. (of the David Sancious heritage).

I play with Sean Chase (Walter Beasley) on a regular basis and I'm cool with that.
Played with Ricky Wellman (Miles Davis) a few times. Interesting.

I've mainly played with three drummers, in some cases since all the way back to high school (Class of 1982...a looooong time) Of those three: One was a 'feel' drummer. He didn't play very complex stuff. But every note he hits is in exactly the right spot. And the other two are 'chops' drummers. They both are Neil Peart worshippers with technique out the wazoo...but less taste.

I always said if I could combine Marks' feel and taste with Rons' (and now Gregs') chops and technique, then I would have the perfect frummer.

Then it hit me. That would make Steve Gadd.

    So:

    Steve Gsdd - see above
Neil Peart - I started in a Rush tribute band
Terry Bozzio - Come on! Have you seen this guy? Have you heard him?
Bill Bruford - I used to give Ron 'homework' from recordings with Bruford on them.
    And yeah...Carter Beauford
