I've had the urge for a Status Graphite bass for awhile now, but can't justify new prices. The places I've been looking don't seem to see many of Rob's basses. Any ideas? I'm thinking a used headless S1 would be great...
The Bass Palace (www.basspalace.com) always seems to have one or two used Status basses in stock. Right now, they have a ltd.ed 4-string from 1996: http://basspalace.com/dynamic/displaybass/4StringBass/2962 and a matching ltd.ed 5-string. Both basses are headed though. Both look to be in excellent condition. http://basspalace.com/dynamic/displaybass/MultiStringBass/2961 Hope this is of some interest. DB
He's right. The Bass palace. Other than that just keep looking on the web. They pop up every now and then. That's how I bought both of mine which I eventually sold.
I don't think I've ever seen any used headless S-1 models around. Rob does have one in stock at what seems to be a very nice price: No. 2726 4-STRING, S1-CLASSIC DELUXE HEADLESS Ash top over alder back Transparent Aquamarine blue gloss lacquer Headless 4-string graphite bolt-on neck 34" (864mm scale), 24 frets Phenolic fingerboard Black hardware 2 Status pickups Board 300 E.Q. with 18 volt power supply Sterling 765 Euro 1,225 U.S. Dollars 1,350 Roughly how much are you looking to spend? There are usually guys on the Status Yahoo group looking ot sell as well...
Yeah, the Swami is the only place I see Status stuff with any kind of frequency. I'm also keeping an eye on the Status YahooGroup. That blue one is what got me started! It *is* gorgeous, but a bit out of my price range at this point. I'm hoping I can score a used S1 in the $800 to $900 range (or less), but that may be a pipe dream.
Drop Rob Green an e-mail. I think you may be surprised at what you could get that bass for. Who knows, he may be having a special. I've always gotten *killer* deals on basses directly through Status!
Scott, every time I look at a pic of that blue S1, I get a woody! The 18V system is the icing on the cake. I dropped Rob a line... let's see what happens.
Yeah, it's a beautiful looking bass and even for the $1200 price that's listed, it's a great deal, especially with the upgraded electronics. I think most of the earlier S-1's had only 1 pickup, so this is essentially a bolt-on S-2 model with a different EQ system. Let me know how you make out!
Actually, Heavy, it's the Bass Place in AZ, not the Swami. I screwed up. Check them. They are best over the phone.
