I was just wondering, i have never knowingly noticed a female bassist on talk bass. Are there so few of you or do i need my eyes tested. + anyone notice how in that Kelis video "Young Fresh and New" she has TWO bassists? How cool is that?
Maybe Paul could put the appropriate little "male" and "female" symbols by our names. Of course, some of you would have both symbols by your names.
Kelis was on "Jools Holland's Later" last week - a UK TV show - playing live with a band that was mostly female musicians. There was a female guitarist and keyboard player, as well as a female bassist who was playing a Yamaha TRB 5-string - but only one bassist! They were very good - great to see a singer playing with a real band that could cut it live, in a genre that is mostly programmed!
I make no difference... I don't care if someone is a female or a male bassplayer.. it's the music that the bassplayer makes that counts.. not the fact if the bassplayer has or has not got a wiener.. music is gender independent imho. Maybe it's because the lead singer of my band is a girl... and she can grunt deeper and better than 90 % of all male singers..
I know quite a few female bass players and they are all just as good as many males bass players..it dont matter to me what you are as long as u do something unique.. now Mr Shiraz our local band www.mrshiraz.co.uk are a new-ish ska punk band and their bassist a girl called Tori is very hot on the bass with some cool slapping stuff as well... Praise The Lord and Let us All have Cake.!!!!
If ther were more women in Talkbass my location would make less sense...It's funny I noticed that the female talkbassers get hit on allot. Showing that we're pathetic.
Apart from BassistJess and maybe Stephanie, are we all in the UK? There's also Carolyn I think from the North East (U.K). If we weren't so geographically spread (by UK standards of course) I'd suggest a get-together!
