I have to admit the first instrument I ever wanted to play as a kid was lap steel. I've never taken the time to learn, or even to really investigate. My interest is more blues and rock than country.

I notice there are quite a few lap steels being made for not a lot of money, and vintage instruments can be had for less than I expected.

Who here plays lap steel? How hard is it to learn? Any suggestions for the budding lap steel player? Am I friggin' nuts?

i love lap steel too !

if you had asked me ten yearrs ago i would have laughed until i was blue in the face...

i occasionally play with a guy who alternates between lap steel and dobro.

the guy plays like jerry douglas !

too much for me to learn tho...enough to do with BG and DB

What *really* interests me is... bass lap steel! Seeing JPJ in concert really opened my eyes! However, it would probably be best to start with "normal" lap steel.

    Hey, this IS OT...

  6. Speaking of JPJ, does he ever update that website? The 2001 tour schedule is getting a little old. Last fall I went to his site and thought he was coming to Indiana, and realized he had...in 2001.
What tunes on his records does he use a bass lap steel guitar?

As I recall, about half of the Zooma album. Not sure about Thunderthief.

I'm just a bad influence, yes I am.

Now, where did I put that picture I was going to post in OT? The one with JT, a jar of mayo, and a kitten?

    :D ;)
