Any one else unable to pick a clear #1 bass?

It actually sounds pretty good - very articulate. Tone must be in the plexiglass
Well, there's the one that I sold. Sadowsky M5/24, koa/mahogany with ebony board. Should have just subbed the pickups with Nordstrand Big Splits. Otherwise, it's a toss-up among a Sadowsky Metro Will Lee 5 that got some after-market love from Pat Wilkins and the NYC shop, a Carl Pedigo custom (looks like a Lakland 55-01, but 34" scale, Duncan NYC soaps and John East pre with variable mids, and an Xotic XB-2. This last one was unplayably backbowed when I got it, but I did the setup myself and it came out well - and this axe is built as well as any NYC Sadowsky/MTD/Alembic that I've ever owned or played. I'm not in love with the body shape - wide bouts don't work for my short-waisted build - but it is a fabulous sounding axe - deep authoritative fundamental, but plenty of shimmer and sheen depending on hand placement, plucking technique and knob manipulation. I have not yet had it side-by-side with the WL5 (I have two locations), but that XB-2 might really be "the one..." If I could only have one. Honorable Mention - an old Yamaha BB2000 fretless that just plain sings, thumps, and brings it. Too bad it's only 4 strings!

I am so impressed with the basses is see at TalkBass and would love to own more but im short scale with real 'hand issues' at soon to be 62 years.
I have long scale covered easily; P and J types etc, i do fretwork setups etc pretty well myself....my problem is finding another shorty to compliment my 65 Epi Newport and cheap Bronco (modded, really nice neck) and keeping the bass under say 7 1/2 lbs.

This question seems to come up a lot in many different forms. However I always have to reply and post a picture of my #1. I always have more basses but they come and go, this one always stays as my favourite.
My number ones change depending on the job.
If I need to do an contemporary R&B gig, my musicman 5 is my #1
For blues and rock, four string all the way. (Just because they're fun to rip on)
For travel (fly outs) I go to my headless.
For jazz, it would be an upright (if I owned one)
If I had to choose only one right now, it would probably be my Sandberg TM-4 ultralight.
It's just so light and easy to play
