Any of you fellas/ladies ever gotten a really good deal on something? Found a nugget of gold?

Mine wasn't exactly a nugget of gold, but I got a Yorkville BM100 for $150 at the local music store. To my ears, it sounds better than my Peavey Microbass (Best Built, Best Tone awards from BP magazine), something I've seen sold in local stores used for $220! Not to mention it has five times the wattage and the right note (octave A) made every poster and book in the store shake with the thing at 6.

I'm also considering picking up a Squier P-bass from a friend of a friend, but that may or may not work out. If it does, I'm going to see about getting an SPB-1 (I've got a 2 in my PJ, and I've got that beautiful mids, but it doesn't have a lot of thump), tear out the frets and string it up with LaBella flats.

How about y'all out there? Ever score really well?

Well, it's been awhile but I scored a brand new SWR Baby Blue II off ebay for $650. At the time it retailed for $1300 and was selling for about $950 on the street. It was brand new, still in the unopened box. Warranty and all. Some guy had ordered it a year earlier at a music store and put down a deposit and then never came back. My good fortune!

I coveted an SWR Redhead for years, but it just wasn't happening because they are ungodly expensive. ( It's a point of view thing. I'm a paramedic. We make crap for money.) Then I found a Redhead for $600 in a store only about an hour and a half drive from home. I tried it out just long enough to make sure it wasn't broken, and then it was mine.:hyper: :bassist:

I robbed the music shop. Well, not really. But that would have been a real steal. Anyway, I picked up my Fender American jazz with Bartolinis used for about $600. It wasn't exactly a steal but it was a good deal, I think.

Plus many more items I had to do repairs on. Pretty easy to score deals on broken gear, especially if you're working in a store in a big metropolitan area.

A friend bought a '63 Fender Strat, in VG condition...for $375, about ten years ago. Out of a music store that should have known better, to boot.

    '70s SVT head w/ matching 8x10- FREE

An old friend of mine, who has been playing bass since the 50's or 60's, said he had a bunch old amps taking up room in his basement. The head wasn't working. Between two 8x10s we found 8 working speakers. $300 in new tubes, caps, and labor, and I have a full-sized rig. :D
