I just picked up an 80's model 4003 4 string Ric for cheap and was wondering if anybody plays one. I've never owned one and don't see them that often either. This one plays really nice, skinny fast neck, finished rosewood board. Also, is the "rickosound" worth dealing with. I'm thinking of getting the external box. Thanks for any comments and opinions tapp

Speaking of Rickenbacker owners, I need your help (preferably experienced owners). I'd rather not talk about it on the board, but if you could e-mail me at [email protected], I'd be greatful.

A possible trade in the near future... I didn't want to get into because it concerns someone who sometimes frequents TB.
Well, it appears I have a '92 model 4003 Jetglo according to the website. It needs a little TLC but nothing major. The one thing that I've noticed. When looking at the finish on the back of the body; at certain angles (in the light) you can see where the 3 body parts are glued together (2 lines down the body length). Is this common for Ric's? thanks tapp
Ok, that's cool. They have this nice 4003 or 4001 model Rick used at Mars Music for $600. Now, it's a bit scratched up, but would it really be worth it to buy it? (I didn't want to start another topic for this question) Anyway, cool bass Tapp.

Tapp, Ricks are neck through. The center piece of what looks like the body is the neck, the other 2 pieces are body 'wings'.
Yeah, thanks guys. I first thought them to be set-in necks because of the way the heel looks but a closer look does reveal them to be neck-thru. Yeah, I don't doubt the quality; I was just curious about the lines I see in the body which is probably normal. thanks tapp
