I may be relocating to Champaign-Urbana IL soon -- anyone from there??

What's the low down on the town? music scene/cost of living/culture/etc?
  2. I'm from Bloomington, IL; about 45 minutes away from Champaign-Urbana.

With the University of Illinois in town the music scene is pretty good considering the size of the town.

The Chicago Bears had all of the regular season games there while Soldier Field gets a face lift.

A central location that is about 2 hours from Chicago and 2 hours from St. Louis and driveable to Memphis.

There are a variety of Cultures, again due to the fact that the scene is driven by the University student body.

The cost of living is low. Rent is cheap compared to anything you'd ever find in CA (where I'm from).

You can smoke in the bars.

    Hot chicks are around.

    Great restaurants.

Only a few small music stores.

The nearest Guitar Center is in Shaumberg, about 2 hours North via 55.

Again, it is a small place. But all things considered...
not too bad if you can connect with the University of Illinois scene.

BTW - It's friggin' cold in the Winter, and sticky Humid Hot in the Summer.
  3. Donne summed it up pretty nicely. My brother went to UIUC and I strongly considered it.

Champaign's music scene is "college-music" oriented, remember--lots of emo and indie-rock.
  4. I'm right there. I'm in the small town of Mahomet, about fifteen minutes outside of champaign. Questions?:)
