Anybody here remember Rocco Prestia of Tower of Power?

...big influence for me, as I'm an SF Bay Area dude, and I know his history... but is he retired now? I realize he had a kidney transplant in 2001 (and I remember contributing to the fund) but he seems a bit overlooked these days... comments?

Not touring for medical reasons, but still playing and working on his own album, as far as I recall. A liver and kidney transplant require a lifetime of drugs to maintain viability and they’re not without side effects. He’s been well discussed and is highly regarded on this forum, as a search will reveal.

Like many players, he has a legion of fans and admirers going back decades that are maybe not as vocal as those of other noted figures, but they’re out there.

Rocco is the man! He is to finger funk what Bobby Vega is to pick funk.

We saw TOP a couple of summers ago, and Rocco was not touring with them, at that time.

Rocco is a legend in my mind. Unique muted funk sound that is so recognizable.

And because of his medical needs, he designed this line of basses for ESP/LTD that are engineered to be lightweight.

Rocco says so here: Artist Spotlight: Rocco Prestia

Product page: Products - RB Series Basses - The ESP Guitar Company

I've never played one, but even though I'm GAS free I am curious about that RB 5-string. Although my favored bass is a 35" scale active 5-string (which I plan to have rewired passive), a 34" scale passive 5-string is the kind of bass that gets my attention.
