Used to be at Bass Alone -- just wondering who the lucky purchaser was. Anybody know?
Might wanna write, email, or call Joe and ask him...
Macc Ebony, Looks killer!
There's no way that's macassar ebony, not even close. Color or figuring.
You sure? Looks more like cocobolo than maccassar ebony to me.
from bass alone website:
From NY, where they just don't do things in a small way. Ash body with a Macassar Ebony top. Gorgeous birdseye maple fingerboard with abalone block inlays on a maple neck. Seymour Duncan Custom Dual Coil pickups with cocobolo covers, Mike Pope 18 volt preamp. List price is $7534. Hard case included. I would much rather have this bass than a nice used car. It will take you many more places!
I think a local (San Diego) player owns that one. I can't remember if that is actually his or not, I haven't seen him for a while. But he is an excellent player and plays in several bands. I think he put a couple dings in it too.
Man, it sure doesn't look like macassar ebony.
guys, i looked like mac ebony to me! it can swirl like that, it's not always linear...
I got served.
well, i think Moo got more served....
so did I
Didn't know if it went to a player, collector, or resaler. Sounds like someone is playing the smack out of it. I think it looks like the bomb and I dig the mac ebony tops. It seems like that's my fave -- the Benavente mac ebony 5'er and this bass have the most kicking mac tops I've ever seen!
Mac Ebony... a beautiful thing...
Hey, that Benavente's mine... errr was
It IS Macassar ebony and I have played that bass a few times. It is incredibly beautiful in person and killer sounding. It belongs to a guy named Kevin Freeby who is a fantastic player and better than 98% of the bassists I hear (in my opinion of course). He's also like a year older than me so he is pretty young to be where he is at musically.
Also, the top is darker looking in person.
NO NO NO I'M RIGHT I SWEAR!
OK, I've calmed down a bit. As someone who has made basses with both cocobolo and mac E tops I'll still bet someone a buck it's not macassar. Someone send that pic to Joe or Vinnie. Notice it does say cocobolo pup covers and how much they match the top exactly.
If it's ebony I'll have to rethink my views of the world and the universe.
I can't accept this, it's like learning there is no easter bunny. Is there another picture?
It is Maccasar ebony for sure, 100% etc etc ad infinitum. I've seen and played the bass on a few occasions, I know the owner, I know the seller, I know the guys who made it etc. It's ebony, no question.
