best online game i've ever seen. i'm not much into the whole on line mmorpg experience, but this one really rocks.

pm me if you play and want to maybe hook up - i'm in lorca.

  2. do you have to pay to use it online like everquest? If so then Im not getting into it, Im not throwing in another 20 bucks a month after I pay near $60 dollars for the game.

I'm currently playing planetside, perhaps once I'm done with that, I'll start up galaxies.

I played the beta, it was excellent(though it got old real quick)

I hope the full release is more exciting.

at anyrate, I don't want to be paying for two online games a month, so Galaxies will wait till I'm done with planetside.

  4. What are the system requirements?

  5. The idea of playing ANY game that requires a monthly fee is not for me :(

    That game looks sweet though.

Perhaps you can dispel this theory that I have- every nerd and his brother will want to be a Jedi, and the world is nothing but a blur of light sabers.

i can dispel it pretty easily...

very very few people will get to be a jedi, noone knows how (you cant just pick it or anything, u have to unlock it and noone knows how to
those that do wont live long (once they die as a jedi they dont come back, except maybe as the blue glowy thing like in the movies) because every imperial will be hunting them down (and vice versa for the dark jedi)

it would still be cool to be one tho

Yeah, on top of that, you need to build your own lightsaber which takes time and a lot of skill.

and then you have to live in hiding.

I would imagine there will probably be a few jedis in the future, and they will go down in the SWG history books :p

one interesting thing about the game is the storyline experiment that hte devs are doing.

something where, they will post story line quests periodically, then depending on how people complete them they will write the story based on those results.

interesting idea, should keep the game interesting.

i'm a big black and white wookie :D he sorta looks like me, too. :D i'm mostly a pistol marksman so far, with some scouting, medic, brawler and artisan stuff thrown in.

as for everyone being a jedi, even developing the potential to be a jedi is _very_ hard, and different for every character. it's going to be a few weeks before anyone discovers even the first inkling of force-related stuff.

once you discover the force stuff, actually gaining profficiency and ability with it is going to take a long time, from what i understand.

it's going to be a long time before someone shows up in the game with anything approaching what was seen in the movies.

btw, this one is taking place around the time of empire strikes back, so all the characters are in the game, so that's sorta cool. they're coming out with an expansion in a few months to conduct the space combat (a star wars online flight sim, basically.)

sys reqs are : windows 98/me/2000/xp
    p3 933 mhz, 256 meg ram, 32 meg video card, 1024x768 monitor.

    nothing too extreme.

thats hilarious ("looks like me") :D

but as far as sys requirements yeah you can get by with that but one of my friends (who is just barely above that) gets really bad hardware lag (very low frame rates etc) but my other friend who has a cpu thats just a smidgen better than those (about a 1.1 proc, 64 mb vid card) gets by just fine, so i guess it varies a lot from cpu to cpu.

  12. hello?? anyone??? Monthly requirement fee???

12 a month if you play for a year

15 a month if you go month by month

and as usual, first month is free

Paying a monthly fee isn't that bad...especially when you consider that the game is constantly being changed, new things added, and implemented.

however I think $15 is a little bit steep.

I used to joke with friends.

"when Star Wars galaxies comes out, is the day that my life ends"

being a HUGE star wars nerd, I figured I'd be first in line. but, when the day actually came...meh.

I'll get it eventually, probably after the space expansion.

I did get to play the beta though, that was was neat. But the beta stunk hard core.

Ah. See, when I read the box it presented itself as "Choose over 5 different races!!! Even Jedi!!![/i} Now that I have a decent computer I might have to get in on this.

  18. By the way, you people who consider a $15/month fee too high, consider how much other forms of entertainment cost. Hell, let's say you want to see a movie. $10 for ticket. You could probably get by without any refreshments, but let's say you want a drink and popcorn. Add at LEAST $5 to that. So that's $15 for...2 hours of entertainment (if it's a really really really long movie).

Online games are damn addictive, chances are you'll be playing them at least 2 hours a day. Suddenly that $15 doesn't seem like much.
Hell, it costs as much as about 10 cups of coffee from Tim Horton's (extra-large!), which isn't a lot at all.

Now, factor in the money you SAVE by paying the $15. Maybe you won't be watching TV as much, so you'll cut the cable/nuke the satellite dish, which will save you...umm, $50/month? Maybe you'll eat out less, since you'll be glued to the screen.

Anyway, I could go on about the economics of online games, but you get the point ;)

I play Planetside, 10 dollars a month, That's a rate I can deal with fine.
Because I don't intend to play it for much longer, that's 3 months of gaming, $30 bucks, not bad.

$15/ month is too high for me. Because I don't expect to be able to limit myself to just 3 months, it would likely end up consuming my life :p

Especially when I'm playing planetside too. I'm not gonig to get galaxies till I'm done with Planetside.

And I don't go to the movies that often :p

and I live in a big house, so even if I played online games 24/7 we'd still have TV and stuff.

if you plan on playing it a lot, sign up for the 6 month membership - ends up being about 12 or 13 bucks.
