I've got one of these things and really like it, and am thinking about acquiring another. Has anybody compared the 110/110 combo to the 110/112 combo, and will the 110/110 combo cut the mustard for smallish engagements? (50 people room, maybe medium volume).

    Thanks guys!

    hey will,

yea, i had a pair of UL110's. and that worked terrific for those smaller than small lounge / museum / wallpaper gigs.

with a 4 strings, things were fine and dandy. but when i'd switch to my 5 strings, the low end didnt quite compare to the low end reach of a UL210. you might have more luck adding a 1x12 to your setup.

That seems to be the consensus. Thanks for your counsel, oh wise joker.

I cut lounge gigs with a 1-10 by itself, with my Walter Woods 100 Watt amp and a four string. I play a lot of loud club dates (several hundred people) with the 1-10 and the 1-12 combo and a 5 String. The epis give me a lot of warmth and penetration although all the high tech gear in the world won't sound right against distorted keys and guitar amps. I want to bring rigs for them so I can groove on my sound!
Sometimes if the stage is resonant, I put the cabinets up on a milk crate which gives me more mids and cuts the lows a bit. The only time I ever have a problem is when I'm really overcranking I can get a bit of distortion, but I think that's more the amp than the speakers. I'm looking to upgrade to a more powerful Woods, although the one I have has been a workhorse.
    My 3 cents

A 50 person gig with the 110UL is no problemo with my Focus
and five string. My problem is that my 110UL/112UL stack, is
rather anemic till I can push it a bit. At that point, its too
loud for the gig. (the stack can get LOUD) I'm actually blown
away at the volume you can get out of some of this "new
technology" gear. Very light, lots of tone, lots of volume.

What do you mean by anemic? Is it not punching or is it not moving air or both?

  8. I tried two 1x10 with a Walter woods (1200 watt) with my Fodera 4 and it had a nice sound to it. I have Epifani 2x10 which is quite punchy and it have a great sound. I have played a few small gigs with it. It's okay but when the drums starts play groove I wish for a little more to keep up with the drums. I would like to try the 1x10-1x12 stack.

Check out the "gear list" on my blog. All I can say is, it beats having a drug addiction! :D

  12. I've been running the 110/112 setup both alone and with PA reinforcement, and recently acquired a Focus SA/True-Voice setup to power it. I think the 2 110's would cut it, but you'd probably end up pushing the bass eq a little bit more. I'll defer to others in regard to 5 strings. The 110/112 combo is simply awesome, however.

I would've agreed with this statement untill I clicked that link and read your blog. Now I am fully convinced that you would have saved money with a drug addiction. ;)

True, but twenty years from now, the drugs would have been long gone...

On the flip side, women will sleep with you because you have drugs (or so I've heard)...I've not heard the same about bass cabs...

Dude, we're both married with kids, right? Sleeping with other women is out. Sleeping with bass gear is not as fun, but it's safer! :D
