Same thing happened to the PS2.

Everyone wanted one on the first day but they sold out in minutes.

Some people will pay anything. :meh:

  3. well, a lot of sellers set up a high start, but nobody bids on them, although the highest i saw (with people actually bidding) was $1,700. right now it appears that most are going in the $600-700 range, which is nice. the highest starting bid was 4,400 but i don't think anyone bid

We have one. I have not had a single problem with it. It got played for about 12 straight hours the night we got it.

I can't wait till they come out over here, it's ages away though. I wanna play the new Elderscrolls but my PC's to old.

Insane prices people are paying though.

  8. I was at a LAN party and watched that happen to two different 360s there. Out of the blue, they turned off.

Never, ever, ever buy a console at launch.

Back in my day, we had the dreamcast.

    Whatever happened to that? :p

Dreamcast was a great little system.

Whoever was in charge of marketing it should be slapped then shot, however...

  13. thats why i will never like ps2...i didn't get mine the opening day, but i got one of the first run PS2s, and it had that DVD problem...i remember as soon as i noticed the problem i went out the very next day and got myself an xbox and never looked back!

  14. $2,000 seems a little steep to pay for something that doesn't even come with games.

    YMMV, indeed.

My PS2 from the inital launch is still going strong with nary a problem. And, I already know two different people who have bought XBox 360s only to have them DOA out of the box.

As for $2000 XBox 360s on eBay--just because someone lists one for $2000 doesn't mean someone is dumb enough to buy one for $2000. I hope.

I had both a first gen PS2 and Xbox, both of which crapped out on me in a relatively short span of time.

What irks me most about initial console launches, is not the defective first-run of consoles, but the lack of quality launch titles.

Granted, Xbox had Halo, and Xbox 360 has Perfect Dark: Zero, but I feel as though launch titles are rarely worth while... not to mention that nothing truly inventive or innovative has yet to be done/announced other than the bizzare Nintendo Revolution...

The only console, IIRC that had a decent launch, was Dreamcast, which then had a miserable lifespan. Sonic Adventure, Power Stone, and Soul Calibur were all launch games I believe and they were all great.

Wow, that sounds like a lot for something I'm not even interested in.

I'll leave mine in the store so someone else can get it. :meh:

Well, duh. Any amount is too much for something that you're not interested in.

I remember when the launch of Pong peaked with the simultaneous release of.....Pong.

The Xbox 360 thing has being fixed by many and by themselves by raising the power supply off the floor.

I agree, never buy a console at launch, but you'd think with all their testing they would always spot the problems.. Apart from that though, after a few batches the prices go right down and their are more games to choose from anyway.

  20. there is an article on yahoo.com right now which identifies an xbox360 website. Out of the 200 users of this site, approx 15% have reported the unit mysterously shut off, after some time. Apparently the units are overheating.
looks like its time for a recall.
