I hoping to buy a WW Ultra in the next few weeks. In fact I called Walter the other day and his message said that he was on vacation until after the 3rd of January. Does anyone know what the current lead time is on one of these? I'm assuming that this amp is his most popular, so maybe he has some in the wings. Has anyone spoken to him in the past month or so?
I spoke to him about a month ago when I bought my Ultra. At the time I called, he had two Ultras, one of which I purchased. Call him asap and see if you can grab the other one.
I got my amber light this November...it replaced an Ultra (I didn't need that much juice). I went to his house in the desert to pick it up....what a prince of a guy! Anyway, keep trying to reach him after the 3rd of January. It's worth it!! Expect tp pay 2200 bucks. It's really the last amp you'll need!
I bought an Ultra 5 or so months ago. I left a message and a few days later he called back saying someone had backed out of a purchase and he had a spare amp if I wanted it. I sent him the money that same day and I had the amp in my hands a few days later.
Purchased an amber light Woods a about a month ago. Great amp, used it with an Epifani 310UL cab WOW!!!!!! Good luck....
I got my Ultra about 2 months ago and my brother bought one as well (Walter said he tries to build up his stock around Christmas) I don't know if he has any more left, so the wait time could be awhile BTW I just purchased a used Euphonic vl-210 and the Ultra is perfect for it! it is 4 ohms, 600 watts) also check out my Walter Woods Yahoo group at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/WalterWoodsAmps/
Thanks for all the replies and info. If all goes right it looks like I will have a "MINT" used one in my hot little hands tomorrow afternoon. I was really looking forward to dealing with Mr. Woods as he sounds like an incredible person. But this opportunity came along and so I decided to go this way. The seller is local so I can actually get hands on with it. I'm pretty pumped.
A friend of mine called me from Boston yesterday. He has a WW amp that is cutting out when driven hard. Load is a 4x10 arrangement, nominal 8 ohms. DC resistance on each driver is 4.4 ohm, and combined DCR is 4.4 ohms after series/parallel wiring in the cab. I know the Clarus (convective coolign) has issues with crapping out when over driven. Also the Stewarts. Anybody have positive knowledge about WW doing same?
Which WW is this you are referring to? Is the amp stored in a case of some type? Possibly a long period of being driven hard? The circumstance surrounding this could give a key to what happened. The Stewart 1.2 was reputed to have cooling issues. Didn't the Peavey DPC?? also have some issues? I wouldn't be surprised at all with any amp that has convective cooling unless it's something like the Crown U series of amps.
Anybody dislike these amps or sell one for a certain reason? For 2100 bucks it better be perfect in all situation & styles! Better clean my undies too
Why yes, I just lucked in to an MI 100-8 single channel. I must say that I'm very appreciative of the information I've been able to find on this site regarding Walter Woods amps. Mine is a late 80's according to it's s/n (032589). Deoxit is truly the cure for the 'scratchies'.
