My coworkers and friends think I am wierd because I have no TV. It's been about 6 or 7 years since I've owned a TV. I admit that I watch it a couple times a year when at a friend's house or something. And I spend all day at the bar on Sunday to watch football. I also have a VCR and DVD player hooked up to my PC so I can watch movies.

I don't think it's too wierd to be without television. There's too many other things to do and be done. I can't imagine choosing an episode of "American Idol" over listening to good music on my CD player or making music on my bass. I can't imagine watching "Friends" instead of having them. I rather work on surviving over watching "Survivor". I have missed all the "can't miss" TV and I feel fine.

Am I really that wierd? Does anyone else not have a TV? Anyone without a TV, miss TV?

  2. your not missing anything....except maybe Fear Factor...

    I don't own a cell phone..:meh:

I haven't had a TV for about 3 months. I haven't missed it. When they talk about the new reality shows at lunch it just confirms that TV is a huge waste of time!!

Yeah...I don't have a TV. At my last apartment, I was without a TV for 2.5 years, then my kids brought one to my house and I hooked it up to an antennae so I had a few channels for a few months - but then I moved and there is no antennae reception where I'm at - so now no TV.(because I will NOT pay for cable) I could hook it up to a vcr or a dvd, but that has only happened one time in the last 2 months and that was really my roommates doing. I don't miss watching TV one little bit.

  5. i don't think if i move into an apartment i'll get a tv, or cable at least...

  6. I've been without for about 7 years now. Prior to that it was rare that I would have a tv... I was never allowed to watch much growing up.

I've actually got a 31" with a vcr and game consoles hooked to it in the bedroom... it's been at least a month since it's even been turned on for gaming.

I love the looks I get when I say I don't do tv. The general public just cannot fathom the lack of spoon feeding. I had a cable modem installed in 2001 and the cable guy was like "No really where is the cable drop?" when I told him I cut the connectors and ripped it out of my house when I moved in he said "Oh... satelite then!" I'm left alone now that I subscribe to cable modem... before that I'd get the "We know you must be stealing cable" letters monthly.

I've even be offered help paying for cable and the use of old tvs

I have the 8$ cable for reception so I can watch the Simpsons (in season), football (the real kind, American ;) ), and Homegrown, which is a Greenfield community access live band show. We got extra cable for no good reason for a while and I watched monster garage and junkyard wars. I used to love junkyard wars. I guess I watch too much TV after all.
    :(

I don't watch much TV, but, I do watch Conan, Trigun, and Lupin III

I am really into those two latter shows right now, and yeah, good stuff.

I just watched Highlander the TV series, it's alright, some bad acting, it's got nothing on the original movie.

  9. those two ain't got nothin' on cowboy bebop, though.
which is coming back with new episodes in october (along with brak show!)
yippee! i am not ashamed to be a slave of the idiot box!

I own the entire Cowboy Bebop sessions on DVD, new episodes? where'd ya hear that?

I heard tell that Shinichiro watanabe was planning a new series revolving around Tuskadero(sp) in the same universe, but nothing confirmed.

That reminds me! I ordered my damn CB:the movie DVD with a gift card from (struggling) tower records a month ago! it still has not arrived, or even shipped! that is whack.

  11. it said on Adult Swim that CB would be back in october, on one of the breaks (they play such killer music on adult swim.)
the CB movie is great. the animation just blows me away.

Yeah, I know it's coming back in october, but that doesn't mean new episodes, if you've seen the series you'd know why.

a new series might be possible in the future, but new episodes of CB, sadly, will never happen.

  13. really? i thought they said new episodes?!?!

of course, my memory is FAR from perfect.

  14. If I didn't have a tv, how could I play GTA 3 and Kingdom Hearts???

Again, if you've seen the whole series you'd know why.

I catch an occasional drag race on ESPN or ESPN 2, and thats about it.

  17. The most amount of tv I watch anymore is M*A*S*H*

I probably only watch it on average once every other week. I enjoy surfing online much more or going to school and doing homework, which I don't really enjoy but duty calls.

I have a television set, but no reception other than VCR, DVD, and PS2.

I think cable should be billed just like the electric bill: on a usage basis.

When the electricity goes out, I'm not billed for electricity during that time. If I can't watch television, I shouldn't be billed for cable during that time, either.

Here in the United States, if you were to record a one-hour show and edit out the comercials, you'll have only a 40 minute show. In other words, a third of what you're paying the cable company goes to the commercials you didn't want to watch in the first place.

I kinda like going to the bathroom whenever I feel the need, instead of having to wait for a commercial break.

When I did have cable, I only watched about 6 channels on a regular basis, despite the fact that 50 or so were available. When they added more channels, they raised the rates. Hence, I had to pay more to watch the same 6 channels.
    Well, that's your choice.
Yep. It was my choice to disconnect cable service, too.

I haven't had cable for years. I'm so out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere, I don't even bother with an antenna. My life is so much happier now, not seeing all of the terrible things happenning in other parts of the world, seeing how badly people act and mistreat themselves and each other.

Sure, I'm out of touch. I like it that way. I like my reality commercial-free, too.

  20. Been about a year since I've had TV that recieves any signal. I've got one that's basically a monitor for my DVD player. Just can't stand commercials. You can feel the IQ points being drained from your head. I have to say the only show I really miss is the Simpsons.
