I know they have been doing this for a while now but last night I finally caught one of the shows and it was rather disturbing. They caught and arrested something like 50 guys in a two day span for attempting to meet 12 year olds for sex. They had so many guys they had to start using the police parking lot for booking.

And this was is just one county in one state. Makes me wonder how many pedophiles are really out there.

It also makes me wonder why they don't go after these people more often. Instead they waste tons of time and money doing undercover stings trying to arrest people for buying 10$ worth of Marijuana. The war on drugs is such a joke. Go after pedophiles instead.

It is scary how much of that goes on. I'm not sure if it is more than in the past though. I think the internet has just opened up more opportunities for these freaks.

I somehow doubt they are mutually exclusive. That is, I don't think the police ignore pedophiles to make pot busts. Of course, I'm sure you'll tell me how I'm wrong.
  5. Sexual abuse is much more rampant in this country than anyone cares to admit. Most often, it's commited by family members or close friends, so people feel uncomfortable talking about it. But I agree that these people probably think that the internet affords them anonymity to go out and prey on kids. It's shocking when I find out that a lot of the people I know were abused or assualted, I makes me wish someone would just take a lead pipe to their faces.

Why hasn't their been any advocacy for castration of these people? It seems like the simplest solution to the problem.
  6. yeah, i saw that show too...its amazing how many people will fall for that...random sex with people thatyou hardly even know seems risky...some of those guys were repeat offenders...you'd think they learned their lesson by now!

For a while around here, the local cops were running successful stings at the highway rest stops and bathrooms of local shopping malls where men (primarily) were meeting each other and performing (ugh!) "acts" on one another.

Advocacy groups complained about the police actions, but hey, they're public places.

Like the saying goes: "Get a room!" Too bad it includes chat rooms.

They can't as it is a psychological obsession. Any less
than telling yourself you are not bipolar or manic depressive
will cure you. Medication, medical castration or castration
    s the only solution, IMHO.

Parents should also be very aware that unrestricted
or unsupervised computer activity by young adults
in the www is not safe. Lurkers abound. Predators are
phishing, many make contact with young teens. I heard a
statistic that one in 2 teens is approached by a potential
predator. I do find that hard to believe.

On another note, one of the worst side effects I have seen on
the internet is GAS, of course.

There was a sting here in Orange County, California that netted a bunch of creeps looking to have sex with a fictional 13-year-old girl. They had a female police officer posing as the girl's mother at a home in Laguna Beach, and she answered the door when each one arrived. These idiots, bearing gifts for the girl, were so brazen and determined that they asked the "mother" for her.

I'm not going to say you're wrong.

I'm just saying they should put their resources towards better things. People smoking pot should be the least of their worries when full grown men our out there molesting children they prey off of on the Internet.

who says that the age of 18 is the right place to say when one is physically, emotional, and mentality mature enough for sexual relationships. i'll admit 12 year olds and adults is sickening. but when you have like, 20 and 16? how big of a deal is that?

some of the "Sex laws" in place are ludicrous. the government controlling our natural habits and desires. and EVERY adult male out there has at one point and time found a girl between 15-17 physically attractive AT LEAST once. at least.

so it really comes down to that fact that maybe the laws should more focus on rapes and forced sex. consensual sex does and often exists in these "illegal" situations, and the government and society actually does the harm, not a mutually "loving" relationship. of course abuse, rape, and other events should be punished. but for your standard relationships, there should be more refined rules produced.

all in MY opinion. so burn me.

There's this little clause in the Constitution about "Cruel And Unusual Punishment" that kind of gets in the way of that.

But how to deal with these sick people is a very definite problem. They are mentally ill and need to be dealt with in a way that takes them out of general society. A very difficult problem indeed.

I'm not going to burn you at all. I'll complicate your point even further. I've been studying globalization in my local university over the last few semesters. How do you deal with something like child pornography on a global scale? Each country and culture has different laws about when someone is considered an "adult". In some countries it's 16, some younger. How do you legally go after something that is legal in one country and illegal in another? Lots of international organizations are trying to solve this problem about cross-jurisdiction access. The www doesn't make it any easier.

I started a thread on this in the lounge but it got busted , very disturbing realization of what is going on out their but i think MSNBC did a great job setting it up and documenting it.

The thread got busted? Wow, I had no idea we had pedophiles soliciting sex on this very website.

I disagree. That's an excuse to avoid dealing with the problem. Same for bipolar and manic depression. Yeah, I know... not a popular opinion - but I think people are too quick to look for "diseases" that need to be "cured" with drugs. Do I know the solution to all these crazy problems people have? Well actually... I have a pretty good idea, but if you want to hear it, it's probably best to just PM me, as I expect my answer would generate the kind of debate that's not appropriate for here.

Like I say, it's not pedophilia if they are post-pubescent. Though in many states you can get married before the age of 18, which in my opinion is a prerequisite to doing anything with a young woman that you could get in trouble for anyway.

Anyone familiar with foreign cultures knows that the age varies all over the place.

For example, Sergei Fedorov of the Red Wings went to his home country of Russia to marry a 16 year old Anna Kournikova. Does that make him a pedophile? By the U.S. standards it does.

Anna was smokin! Can't say that I blame him. 16 is legal in a lot of states here actually.
