Anyone ever build a neck thru using a Carvin neck thru bass neck?

    I'm looking at this:

I have dreams of building my own 4001 copy (or at least my take on one).

I was curious if anyone has tried and if they can post pics of their efforts.

    Thanks in advance.

    Yes. This one.

I custom-ordered the bass neck-thru blank through the Carvin Santa Ana store. Added the body "wings" and a headstock scroll from an old cello. G&L MFD pickup from Buffalo Bros.

Wow, thanks to everyone who posted their inspiring results. I also want to thank the community for providing help when a builder runs into a problem. What a great place it is here!
  12. I'm also gearing up for my first build from scratch and have thought about getting a premade neck. However, those necks can be pretty pricey...

Ultimately, I think I'll just jump in the deep end and build my own neck, but this shortcut still lurks in the back of my mind:

Has anyone here considered buying a cheap (perhaps even second-hand) neckthrough and ripping out the neck? Maybe get some usable parts, too.

You might have some holes and routes to fill. I think it might be worth it. Thoughts?
  13. I'm in the process of building a 5 string around a Carvin neckthru and have a thread here -1st time build/assembly-advice welcome, let me know what you think!
