Anyone ever collaborate on recording projects online? I'd like to find someone to trade some .wav with online, but there isn't really a community for that type of thing that I belong to. Anyone have any advice?
I will trade with you. The other day there was a post here about a youtube vid: "Let's Jam! How-to and watch a live session" Have not checked it out yet but that sounds good too.
The mp3 blues all stars have been at this since dial ups. By the way, the fellow on their Facebook page, Paul Cummins, was a long time friend and guitar player for several bands I played with in El Lay. He is one of he original online collaborators and is surely missed.
Started doing this over ten years ago. Just find people whose playing you admire and contact them. The worst that will happen is they say No. Save up some money and pay for tracks (specify you will pay on completion if you like the tracks...they can send you an mp3 mix so you get the basic idea.) and you can get just about anybody to play on your stuff. (Famous session musicians gotta pay rent or mortgage just like us humans.) When you email them, tell them how you came to know about them as a player, what you like about their playing, any time you may have got to see them playing live, etc. Establishing a rapport will help smooth things out if there ends up being problems, you need redos, etc. Over communicate what it is you are wanting from them, why you thought they would be a good fit for what you are trying to do. make sure you have a click track that starts before any music. Specify where you want them to come in, feel you are looking for, etc. Expect to be surpised at the results including both elation and disappointment. Best of luck.
What kind of recordings do you have? i was thinking if one could record a measure, phrase, or even a loop, it would be cool to build off of. i have and can record various instruments.
Soundcloud is a good resource to network for this. I've done recordings with people all over the world that way. It's a step up from craigslist usually
