So, early last evening, I received this very nice email addressed to my band's "[email protected]" address:
After doing some research on their site, it looks like they charge a good $3500+ to be listed in their "preferred vendors" directory. Without even talking to their "Regional Entertainment Director", this reeks of scamitude to me :) If they're legit, it *might* be worth it, but I figure there's a fair amount of wedding band experience here on TB, so I should probably ask you all first. Ever heard of these guys, and if so, what's the 'word on the street'?

"Grace Ormonde Wedding Style Magazine" is a legit publication but the come-on is not.

Well, it seems to come from the right domain... the "From" and "Reply-to" fields are <user>@weddingstylemagazine.com (triple-checked the spelling to make sure there were no sneaky font-tricks like the 'ell' being a capital 'eye', etc). Googling for "Grace Ormonde Wedding Style" gives me that domain as the first hit, and a quick peek at their MX records doesn't show anything out of the ordinary. if it's a 419-style scam, they've done an excellent job making it look legit.

as a general rule, the publications that are worth getting attention from aren't going to charge for the privilege of being featured in their publications.

It may not be a scam - they may do what they say they'll do.
But it IS a racket, IMO. And a blind come-on -- they shoot those out to every band in town, I'm sure.

I'd be tempted to tell them, "Sure, we'll agree to be in your mag. But we can't pay you to do so unless and until the feature is published and we start getting the most excellent and high-paying wedding gigs that you're promising we'll get."
