Well the female and I are going on a cruise in a few days and we don't really feel like paying $7-10 per drink, plus gratuities so we're probably going to bring stuff with us. Anyone have experience in this and have any advice?

I bring alcohol with me everywhere. Mostly in my liver.

    These might help:

  3. The binock's look sweeeet for that purpose!! I'd just bring a few quarts hidden in my clothes and then claim ignorance if caught.

I put bands on cruise ships for five years. The booze in the gift shops is duty free. Most likely cheaper than anything you could bring. I was buying Crown Royal at $7 a bottle.

But when the sun starts blazin', those frozen foo-foo drinks they serve will start calling you. :smug:

It's a regular topic at the forum over at www.cruisecritic.com . Putting vodka in water bottles seems to be a very popular way to sneak booze on a ship. I haven't tried it, I just buy their expensive drinks. The stuff you buy onboard and in the duty free shops at port you can't bring to your room, they hold it for you.

    Oops! :p
I meant the "gift shops" actually on board the ships, which are also duty free, so sneaking anything on is not really going to be cost effective.

Anything you bought on board or in the various ports could be taken to your cabin within a certain "single buy" amount.

I only worked for CCL so it could be different on other lines I guess.

You've paid to go on a cruise - and don't want to pay for drinks???

    This does not compute.

Seems to me, they are not allowed to route through your luggage, so stowing stuff there would be a good start. That or put vodka in a two litre water bottle.

I think the ideal combination would be:

Because it's hella efficient per quantity to mix that into a coke. Only an ounce, and you've got one STRONG rum n coke.

Slightly off topic, but this reminded me of something my brother did. When he and I were in Italy last summer he acquired a taste for Limoncello and bought several bottles. Despite being 19 he managed to put four big bottles in his suitcase (he even gave away some clothes to make room) and got them back into the states without incident or breakage.

I was surprised to say the least.

This was before I was 21, so I had to sneak it on. I brought several bottles back onto the ship when we were in port. Just like 5 bottles in plastic water bottles. No one said anything.

I don't mind paying for drinks... I just don't want to pay their ridiculously high prices for drinks. And as much as I plan on drinking I really can't afford it lol

I'd be planning a few days of sun and fun, a fwe days seeing their shows and events.... and one day to DRINK.

That would be an extra $100 at the cruise ship bar prices.

I worked on Princess ships and the ships i was on did not sell liquor through the gift shop. Only duty free which they handed you when you left the cruise. They "screened" luggage but I don't think they went through any of it. I do know some passengers were able to sneak some on board and then keep it hidden in their cabin. If you are discreet you may not have a problem. Not all the drinks on the ship are ridiculously priced, only most of them. But i agree with you, as a crew member we were allowed to purchase drinks in the bars if we were not playing, but they were pretty expensive so we generally didn't drink in any of the ship bars. A lot will depend on where the ship is going and the ports of call. When we were sailing out of Brisbane security was very very tight. So tight that crew members and passengers routinely had their bags emptied out. Sailing out of Tahiti was just the opposite. I could have carried kegs on board with me and as long as my pass matched i was ok. It just depends on a number of factors.

Wrap it in lead sheeting inside your case and it should be able to pass any screening they do for it.
